A Foot’s Athletics Journey
Hi, I am a foot. A left foot. And everybody knows that no-one uses left feet. It is quite boring, just having to sit there while the right foot gets to run and jump and climb. And… to make it worse, the right foot is such a show-off, he
even calls himself Sir Used-a-lot. But this is the one time of year when I get a turn too. Today.. is Athletics Day!
First up I have whatever humans call jumping into a pit of sand, Long-jump I think it is. Anyway, the human on top of me runs up to the pit and leaps, yep, you guessed it, from the right foot. Then, she jumps again, I land in the pit. Wait a sec... OMG!!! She jumped from me, the left foot!!! But, why??? I will never know.
Next on the menu is Running. I step over this weird red material to get to the grass on the other side. On the way I see Bing and Bong squabbling over who tripped their human over. My human takes me to a white line on the red stuff. Then she stops. A loud squeaking sound fills my ears. My human sets off. What are we doing? Where are we
going? I have no idea.
She comes back around to where we started and I am getting sore. I hope with all my tiny heart that we are stopping now. We are. Thank goodness for that. What??? We’re going again? Oh, we’re going to the hill, we must be finished for the day. But no, I was wrong.
My human soon returned to the red track thingy. My human walked over to this weird blue bouncy block. She walks straight past Ding and Dong. “ Nooo!!! Nooo!!! Stop!!! Stop!!! I don’t wanna go! I don’t wanna go!” screamed Ding, The weakest of the two feet. “ Shush, Ding” Said Dong “ I’m trying to figure out what we are doing.” There was silence for a while. “ Aha, we’re doing High-Jump.”
It is High-jump time. And, my human’s turn. Oww ow ow ow. Why does she have to run so bumpily? Phew, now we’re in the air. I love the feeling that it gives me. It makes me feel so free. Like I could do anything in the whole world and escape injury. Then, reality hits me in the form of a soft blue mat. I have landed. I can’t even look to see if the pole fell down or not. I wait till I am in line again before I look. Should I or should I not? That is the question. I make a split-second decision that involves me looking at the pole. I do. It is still up!!! My next turn comes up fast and I willingly take off into the air. I tried my hardest but I couldn't help brushing the pole, causing it to tumble to the ground. Yaaay I got 5th overall!
Next was hurdles, I won the first and second heats. Then was the final. “Go,” announced the person on the start line. I try to cover ground but I slip. It's ok though I got my balance back. I sprint up and leap, I leap and leap and leap I fly through the finish line in second yaaay.
Next was shot put. I try my best, even though I don't get to do much. Woohoo! We got second place overall. Take that Dong. In your face.
Then we have lunch. I watch the sprint finals, envying the feet that get to run. Next up was discus. There was a very long line. When it was finally our turn we sort of fail. Oh well there's always next time.
Last to be done was javelin. My run up was fun but the actual throw was hard work. A good thing to receive after that hard work was a 2nd place ticket, which is what we got. Oh yeah!!!
Now it is time to go home. My mum is here now. She picks me and my sister up and we all leave with the satisfaction of a successful day.
