Maths Test: Knowledge

Description: On Monday last week everyone in Poutama did a maths knowledge test. I did the stage 6 test. Last time I got 54%. This time I got 74%. Here is a picture of my completed test.

Evaluation: I think that I did really well at getting 10 more questions correct than last time. Next time I want to get 80% and move on to stage 7.

Skimming and Scanning

Skill 1
WALT: Create criteria to evaluate sources

On Thursday Suzanne gave us a sheet of paper about Japan's "invisible train". She asked us 5 questions and we skimmed and scanned through the text to find the answers. Here is a photo of the article.


A good source:
-has a good reputation, be from a trusted expert
-not ask you for private information or have virus warnings
-contain the keywords/information you are looking for

Summarising
WALT: Persist to find information to gain a wider perspective

WALT: organise our notes to make connections and find gaps

Feedback: I like how you have included heaps of different facts about what plants might react to different liquids.

Evaluation: I think I did really well at focusing on the W.A.L.T's and understanding them so that I can get the best view on websites etc.I can see if it is a good website, because of the criteria above.I also think I am getting better at skimming and scanning because I can now read a page of information in 30 seconds and still get all of the info out of it.

Today we did 2 little O's and away I go. We got a piece of paper with lots of circles on it and we turned them into different things. Here is a pic of my sheet.

Reading - Skimming & Scanning

Today I did a reading game that focuses on skimming and scanning. Skimming and scanning is when you look over the text quickly and look for the key words.



I think I did well at this because it took me less than a minute to get each answer correct.

Seed2Table

In Seed2Table last week we started our science experiments. My group decided to test which source of liquid makes plants grow faster. We used

  • Fizzy
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Hot Water
  • Normal Water
  • Dye
We think that the plant with fizzy will die. What do you think???

We also did some cooking. We made corn fritters, tomato salsa, kale chips, potato chips, and apple crumble. I enjoyed the whole meal and am looking forward to our next session.

Handwriting

On Monday I did some handwriting. I gave myself 5 minutes to copy a poem. Here is the finished product.


I think I did really well, especially since I finished with time to spare. Although I finished in time I think that it was a little bit less accurate.

Maths

Today in maths I have been working on ratio problems. For example, lets say I was making lolly bags for a fair, and I put 3 green lollies and 1 red lolly in each bag. How many of each coloured lolly would I need to make 9 bags? Can you figure it out??? Here is a pic of the page I was working on.


Today I think I did really well and I was focused on my task.

Maths

Today in maths we focused on mixed fractions, improper fractions, and converting them into either a mixed or improper fraction. Here is a pic of my group's working out.


I think I did really well at this. Next time I could maybe put my suggestions out there more.

Handwriting

Last week we did a handwriting sample. We had 5 minutes to copy down a poem. The criteria was for it to be fast, legible, and accurate. Here is a pic of my sample.


I think my sample was accurate and legible but I need to work on speed.

Spelling

In the first week of school we did a spelling test of the 300 essential words. The first day we did half, and then the next day the other half. I got two Wrong and only because of some capital letters. Here is my completed test.



I think I did resonably well but I really need to get my capitals under control.

Seed2Table

Today our class did Seed2Table. We made pumpkin soup with flat bread, feijoa muffins, and pinwheel scones. After that we set the tables. This is what they looked like.


I think I did really well at making the feijoa muffins and I think I worked well with my group.


We also did the science part of it. Today it was planning our experiments for next week.  We also talked about how we could make plants grow at this time of year, and what plants do at this time of year.

Beautiful Oops

On Thursday Troy showed us a book called Beautiful Oops. My partner Phoebe gave me an oops (The part in Vivid) and I changed it into something cool. Here is a pic of what I made it into.


I think I did really well at this task although I had some trouble choosing just 1 idea.

Maths

Today in maths I did a fractions activity called Jelly Slice. In Jelly Slice you have to cut the Jelly so that each gold star is the only star in its section. Here is a pic.


I think I have done really well in maths today and I gave myself a variety of activities to do.

Buddy Art

Description: Last term our class did some art with our buddies. There was a piece of art split into lots of  25cm by 25cm squares. Every person and their buddy got a blank one of those and a 3cm by 3cm picture of what we needed to draw. We practiced on an 18cm by 18cm piece of paper. When we had finished all of the squares we put them together and they made Sarah Platt Art. Here is the finished product.


Feedback: I think it looks really nice I like what you used to create the lovely art.
Feedforward: Next time you could put which one was yours. Anyways loved it <3

Evaluation: I think me and my buddy worked really well as a team. We would have one of us drawing on one side and the other opposite so that we didn't get into each others way. The hard part for me was getting the bushes into the right shape - they may look easy to draw when you're looking at the original version but it's actually quite hard.
